Varsity job fair not up to mark
CHANDIGARH: The first day of Panjab University campus job fair turned out to be disappointing for students as the salary packages on offer were rather low. Students from different departments stated that the companies of their interest did not turn up.
Kunal from University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) said the companies that dropped in for placements were not offering the job profiles that an engineering student should go for. ”Two MNCs where I applied were offering the profile of BPO operations that too on a very low salary,” he added.
Ravinder, a student of BSc (physics) said that packages offered by the companies were not attractive. ”I appeared in a written test of a telecom
company for a project engineer’s post,” he said.
Some of the big players that arrived for placements were ICICI, Ford (Bhagat Group), HCL, VIOM Networks, IBM, INTARVO, Religare, SBMC, Practice BUZZ, TK20, Revelcom, WNS, Aspire, Cue Blocks, Agile Media, Talwar and Talwar and Virka Solutions. The 25 companies that came, offered packages ranging from Rs 1.5 lakh per to Rs 3.5 lakh per annum.
Ashish, a student of University Institute of Applied Management and Sciences (UIAMS) said, ”I had a lot of expectations from the central job fair. However, the companies offering the packages and profiles were not attractive enough,” he said.
The results were kept on hold as some companies will conduct the last round in the next two days, when more employers are expected.
